Welcome to our Spring Program 2024

This spring, we invite your family to explore Hobart's beautiful bushland reserves, where fun and learning about nature go hand in hand.

Our program is designed to help children develop their innate curiosity for the natural world, fostering a sense of appreciation and care for our environment.

Our Bush Adventures are led by experienced and enthusiastic educators dedicated to helping your family learn about and connect with nature.

Some of What's on Offer This Spring Holidays:

  • Waterbug Survey: Get up close to the fascinating creatures that inhabit our waterways. Learn about their role in the ecosystem, how to identify various species, and discover ways to protect our precious waterways and catchments.
  • Platypus Protector Guided Walk: Join us for a guided walk to explore the world of the platypus, one of Australia's most iconic animals. Find out where they live, what they eat, and how you can help ensure their protection.
  • Magic Soil and Mud Mosaics: Unleash your creativity as we combine earth and water to craft magical mud mosaics. This hands-on activity is sure to spark joy and wonder!

This holiday, we are also teaming up with the Youth Arts and Recreation Centre (YARC) to explore the trails of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. On this short walk, we'll uncover some of the mountain's wonders – from fascinating plants to ancient rock overhangs and the unique twisting form of the giant "octopus tree." This is a fun and easy adventure on the mountain, open to young people aged 12-25 years. Book your ticket on the YARC Humantix website.

For those looking for a "choose your own adventure," the Hobart Bushland Reserves are home to an extensive network of tracks and trails catering to the interests of hikers, runners, and mountain bikers of all ages and abilities. The city's trails range from easily accessible, well-maintained paths to challenging rugged terrain, providing a unique opportunity to explore Hobart's natural beauty and enjoy breathtaking views of the city and surrounding landscape. You're sure to find a trail that suits your interests and abilities.

The City of Hobart provides comprehensive maps of its bushland tracks for walking, dog walking, and bike riding on the tracks and trails page.

Alternatively, you can visit the Greater Hobart Trails website, which is an excellent resource for finding tracks and trails in the Greater Hobart area. The website offers:

  • Information on walks, cycling routes, mountain biking trails, and horse riding tracks
  • Details on trail difficulty, length, and facilities
  • Interactive maps and elevation profiles
  • Photos of the trails

For the active and adventurous looking for a full day out, we highly recommend the self-guided Fern Tree to Wellington Falls adventure. It's perfect for families looking to bike and hike together! This journey winds through lush bushland, leading you to a breathtaking waterfall and picturesque views.

Bookings are essential for all Bush Adventures

  • Family events are open to children of all ages.
  • Children can only be booked into a Bush Adventures activities suitable for their age
  • Out-of-age siblings can attend under the supervision of a parent/guardian - free of charge.
  • An adult must accompany children - except for Go Wild Go Solo events, 10-14 years.
  • Just for Adults, events are for participants 16 years and older.

Conditions

Activity Age Requirements

Children can only be booked into Bush Adventures activities suitable for their age.

For our Bush Kids program, out-of-age siblings can attend under the supervision of a parent/guardian - free of charge.

We ask parents/guardians to be mindful that siblings do not detract from the enjoyment and engagement of others.

The Go Wild, Go Solo program has a strict minimum age of 10 years and parent/care attendance is not required.

Activity Pricing

All ages activities are $5.50 per person.

Child activities are $5.50 total per child, with accompanying adults and out-of-age siblings free of charge.

Go Wild Go Solo activities are $8.80 per child.

Adult targeted activities are $10 per person.

Where Our Wild Things Are, nocturnal tours are $5.50 for children and $10 for adults.

(This fee includes a 50c booking fee applied by the trybooking website).

Activity Conditions

All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

FOR ALL ACTIVITIES please bring a drink of water and healthy snack. Always wear suitable clothing for the weather and conditions.

Look out for the Bush Adventures flag when arriving at any activity.

Unfortunately, ACTIVITIES MAY BE CANCELLED in the event of unsuitable weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

All booked participants will be notified in the case of cancellation and a refund, less the booking fee, will be issued.
